EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH DJ FMFC!!

WHATS UP EVERYBODY ! ITS THAT TIME AGAIN!!! OUR SPECIAL SEGMENT WHERE WE SHOWCASE THE MOST TALENTED UPCOMING ARTIST ! DJS, PAINTERS, MUSICIANS ETC! IT DOESN'T MATTER WE RESPECT ALL TALENTS! NOT ONLY IN OUR HOME TOWN OF MILWAUKEE WISCONSIN WE KEEP IT WORLDWIDE!!! ANYWAYS WITHOUT ANY FURTHER OR DUE WE HOOKED UP WITH A VERY TALENTED PRODUCER BY THE NAME OF DJ FMFC! THIS MAN IS VERY TALENTED AND HE IS DOING BIG THINGS AND MAKING MAJOR MOVES AS OF RIGHT NOW! CHECK HIM OUT AND SHOW HIM SOME LOVE!

1. What is your name? Age/s?

My name is Josh Arter, and I just turned 21.

2. Where are you from?

I was born in Iowa, live in Minnesota, Detroit, and now I live in
Atlanta and go to school in Milwaukee.

3. How long have you been doing music?

I’ve been making music forever. I taught myself how to play the drums
and guitar, and I learned how to use my music programs by just messing
around. Practice DOES make perfect!

4. Any new projects in the works?

Right now, I am working on beats with a few people from around the country.

5. Describe your sound? Influences?

My sound changes often! I go through chill phases, more electronic
sounding phases, but usually I just want to make a beat that pounds
hard and can match the vocals.

My influences as producers are J Dilla (R.I.P.), Zaytoven, Dr. Dre,
the Neptunes, Pete Rock, Swizz Beats, DJ Pooh, Madlib, Da Beatminerz,
and even DJ Paul and Juicy J.

As rappers, I guess I look at Gucci Mane, Ludacris, Currency, Wiz, Big
Boi, Jeezy, J Dilla, Big K.R.I.T., the list goes on!

But with my music, I don’t want to emulate another artist’s sound or
style, I want to make my own. I usually listen to their music to get
an idea and then make my own music.

6. What motivates you to keep pushing as an artist?

I’m motivated by the reaction of friends and other artists when I play
them a new beat and they’re blown away. If I could get that reaction
with every track, then I feel like I am on my way to bigger and better
things.

7. How has your music progressed over time?

When I first started out, I made cheap, crappy beats just to be cool
and feel like I made something. Then I moved on to making remixes. I
would make a beat and then put a popular rap acapella over it. It’s
actually how I safeguard my beats from being stolen when people want
to buy them. I send them the remix and tell them I can take out the
acapella and give them the complete instrumental. After making remix
after remix, I finally hooked up with another producer and had some
beats on a mixtape and actually started selling my beats!

8. How many songs/albums have you recorded?

Right now I have 141 finished beats but probably a million that aren’t finished.

9. What is the craziest story you’ve encountered as an artist?

I have a friend Lauren who was driving around with her friend John in
Ann Arbor, Michigan. They drove and picked up John’s friend Alex.
Lauren was playing my music and John said he loved the song! Alex
asked where Lauren got the music, and she said I had given it to her.
Alex freaked out that Lauren was my friend because Alex had heard it
at work from some guy. The crazy part is Alex lives and works 45
minutes away from Ann Arbor, so my music had spread to some random
dude who showed it to a friend of a friend!

Another awesome story happened this past year. I was leaving my dorm,
and when I was walking down the hall, I heard someone playing one of
my tracks. I knocked on the door and asked the guy where he got the
music, and he said his friend had given it to him. I told him I had
made that track, and he didn’t believe me until I showed him the
instrumental on my computer!

10. Any special words for your fans/supporters?

To my fans, thanks for spreading the word of my music, and I’m glad
you like them as much as I like making them!

To my supporters, keep on wanting my beats! Nothing feels better than
hearing someone kill a beat I made.

11. Any words for the doubters/haters?

I haven’t met or heard of any haters, but for those that are out
there: I started out doing this for fun, for some sick remixes to
listen to in my car, and now I have started taking what I do for fun
and making it into something. I sell my beats, and I meet new artists.
What have you done this summer?

12. Where can we hear or buy your music at?

You can hear and buy my beats at

http://fmfc.tumblr.com/

13. What makes you different or stand out from other artists?

My sound is a little more developed than other basement producers. I’m
not getting the sound you hear on the radio, but I’m not making little
Casio keyboard beats. It’s more electro sounding, it’s definitely
chill, but I all of my tracks will pound the hell out of your car’s
system!

14. Any final words of wisdom? Shout outs?

Words of wisdom? I guess I am proof that you can do what you love,
have fun with it, and make some spending money on the side, but
BEWARE! Don’t let the money take over. I only started selling beats
this summer, and it was because of a lucky break! I still make music
everyday, and as soon as I have a new remix done, I put it on my iPod
and go for a cruise in my car.

These shout outs go hard.

Thanks to Strae Bullet for being the first artists to EVER buy a beat
from me. Thanks to Blue Jones for putting me on and getting my tracks
on a mixtape. Thanks to my friends and family who spread my music!
It’s crazy how far it’s reaching! Finally, thanks to my grandma for
letting me have her old Yamaha keyboard and starting this whole music
thing!
